ASSA ABLOY Makes a Power Move in Access Control with SKIDATA Acquisition

Let me tell you about a game-changer in the access control industry. Today, industry giant ASSA ABLOY announced they’re acquiring SKIDATA, a powerhouse company known for their innovative access management solutions. This move is a serious power play for ASSA ABLOY, solidifying their position in established markets.

As someone who’s always impressed by forward-thinking companies, I gotta say, this acquisition makes perfect sense. “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome the SKIDATA team aboard,” said Nico Delvaux, President and CEO of ASSA ABLOY. “Their cutting-edge product line and proven expertise in access solutions are a perfect complement to what we already offer.”

Massimo Grassi, who heads the Entrance Systems Division at ASSA ABLOY, echoed Delvaux’s sentiment. “SKIDATA’s dedication to secure, reliable access systems and exceptional customer service perfectly aligns with our values,” he said. “Together, we’re confident we can build something truly remarkable.”

SKIDATA, founded in 1977, brings a wealth of experience to the table. With a team of roughly 1,280 talented individuals, they’ve been a subsidiary of the Swiss listed Kudelski Group. Headquartered in Salzburg, Austria, SKIDATA will become part of the Business Segment Pedestrian within ASSA ABLOY’s Entrance Systems Division.

While the acquisition might have a slight initial impact on EPS (earnings per share), it’s expected to be a positive move in the long run. SKIDATA boasted annual sales of approximately MEUR 305 (around MSEK 3,500) in 2023. The deal is subject to standard regulatory approval and formalities, with a projected closing date sometime in Q3 of 2024.

This acquisition is a clear signal of ASSA ABLOY’s commitment to expanding their access control solutions portfolio. By joining forces, both companies aim to deliver an even wider range of top-tier access solutions, all while prioritizing security and exceptional customer service. This is exciting news for the industry and ultimately, for anyone who values secure and efficient access control solutions.
